Decline in sale of mobile handsets
Karachi (July 11, 2008): Customs duty of Rs 500 per imported mobile phone, and weakening rupee values against the dollar have led to a rise in the price of mobile handsets, traders said on Thursday. They said that while the price of an ordinary handset increased by Rs 250 to 500, a highly featured one, like the Nokia E90 rose by Rs 10,000 or more, in the local market.



Ufone introduces Call Block Service
ISLAMABAD (July 11, 2008): For the first time in Pakistan, the Ufone prepaid customers now have the facility to block unwanted calls coming their way, says a press release.



Skardu and Astore being linked via landline phone
SKARDU (July 11, 2008): Special Communication Organisation (SCO) is actively working to link Skardu and Astore districts through landline phone facility. According to details, work on the project of laying modern cable in this regard is going on swiftly. On the other hand, SCO is providing landline and mobile phone facility at cheaper rates.



Mobilink launches 'Mobilink Genie'
KARACHI (July 09, 2008): Mobilink has launched 'Mobilink Genie', a futuristic service of privileges and convenience, heralding the onset of mobile commerce in Pakistan. This service has been introduced with the collaboration of Inov8, CitiBank, KASB, Atlas Bank and Adamjee Insurance.



Ufone to spend $200 million on network expansion this year
ISLAMABAD (July 09, 2008): Ufone would spend 200 million dollars on its network expansion to ensure quality and affordable services to its around 17 million subscribers during the current financial year.



Big decline in telecom FDI in 2007-08
ISLAMABAD (July 08, 2008): After an impressive growth for two successive years, the foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan telecom sector substantially declined during the last fiscal year, it is learnt. Sources said that FDI in telecom sector amounted to only $810.9 million during first three quarters of 2007-08, showing declining trend in the successive quarters against $1.824 billion for 2006-07.



Huawei to deploy WiMAX network in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD (July 07, 2008): China's Huawei Technologies said on Wednesday it has been selected by Mobilink, the largest GSM operator in Pakistan and a subsidiary of Orascom Telecom, to deploy a commercial WiMAX 16e network.

ISLAMABAD (July 07, 2008): Rolling your eyes to turn up the volume of a portable music player and tapping your fingers to turn on a DVD player are among technologies Japan's top mobile carrier is testing for "wearable" gadgets.



EMS launches BlackBerry solution
LAHORE (July 06, 2008): The Emitac Mobile Solutions (EMS) and the Warid Telecom on Saturday announced to launch BlackBerry solution in Pakistan. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two organisations here at a ceremony, under which the Solution will bring together smartphones, software and services to allow easy wireless access to email, phone, calendar, web, multimedia and other business and lifestyle applications.



Nokia's new devices highlighted
KARACHI (July 01, 2008): Nokia on Monday gave an overview and highlighted features of its latest devices likely to be launched later this year in the local markets. At a press briefing held at a local hotel, country manager Nokia Imran Khalid Mehmood and product manager Khuram Pradhan were present. The Nokia N78 - a latest model of N series was prominently highlighted.
