Traders feeling the price pinch
ARTICLE (July 15, 2008): As the Pakistani economy continues along its downward slope, the Business Recorder spoke to retailers and wholesalers at Karachi's Jodia Bazaar to see how the country's recent inflation has affected business. The traders and shopkeepers interviewed all shared a similarly gloomy assessment of the Pakistani economy and highlighted the manifold troubles shopkeepers are facing with increased prices.

Management of energy crises

ARTICLE (July 15, 2008): Pakistan at present is facing acute power shortages which have led the government to resort to loadshedding, as a tool, to manage the power crises. To add to the problem, it occurred in the hot months of the year, which made the life of the common man miserable, where long power breakdowns have led to extreme inconvenience and discomfort to the people.

SPOTLIGHT: Mr Zardari tries his hand at foreign affairs!
ARTICLE (July 15, 2008): Earlier in the month, when the entire country was in the grip of gathering clouds of violence on our North West frontier, the people were groaning under the weight of ever increasing food prices, the coalition was creaking at the joints, American violations of our air space were becoming routine, American incursions had actually killed innocent citizens.

Partly Facetious: The most secure of Pakistan
ARTICLE (July 15, 2008): "Four people get protocol in terms of security that a truly big shot should get."

The free falling rupee
ARTICLE (July 14, 2008): Who would have predicted a rupee value of over 74 rupees per dollar? That did not happen even when Mian Nawaz Sharif took the most economically flawed decision in the history of this country: froze all foreign currency accounts overnight arguing that this would ensure no-capital flight.

Some in US replace oil heat with wood stoves
ARTICLE (July 14, 2008): It's summer in the United States, but many Americans are already fretting about winter. Record prices for home heating oil are rippling across America's northern regions, stoking demand for wood stoves and other alternatives, and forcing some heating oil companies out of business.

Gadget brings back Berlin Wall for tourists
ARTICLE (July 14, 2008): Visitors to the German capital disappointed to find little of the Berlin Wall left can now have it reappear before their eyes with a gadget offering a self-guided tour. The handheld multimedia device the size of a pocket organiser allows visitors walking or cycling through the city to see what the Wall looked like at the spot where they are at a given moment, using GPS navigation technology.

Management and social sciences: truth behind research publications - II
ARTICLE (July 13, 2008): It is notable that no visible work of Pakistani scholars in the literature of social and management sciences is available (excluding a very few exception). The crisis of the lack of research is much severe in social and management sciences as compared to physical sciences.

In Egypt suicide and scams overshadow exams
ARTICLE (July 13, 2008): Soad Ahmed Hassan paces anxiously outside the school where her daughter is sitting Egypt's end of year exams. So far the test has driven two pupils to suicide and sparked a wave of corruption claims. At the Gamal Abdel Nasser school in central Cairo a dozen mothers wait for their children to finish the dreaded "thanawiya amma" - Egypt's equivalent of A-levels or SATs - that largely determine a child's future.

Political roundabouts
ARTICLE (July 13, 2008): Political roundabouts are playing an "important" role in national as well as international politics. Rounds of talks on this or that issue are not a new phenomenon. And, these roundabouts keep going round and round in an unending and unproductive manner and none ventures to say enough is enough.
