Top London policeman jailed
LONDON (February 09, 2010): The former president of Britain's National Black Police Association was jailed for four years on Monday after being found guilty of misconduct in public office and perverting the course of justice. Commander Ali Dizaei, a senior Scotland Yard officer, had threatened and falsely arrested young Iraqi businessman Waad al-Baghdadi in a row over money.




KSE index up 40.25 points
KARACHI (February 09, 2010): The Karachi share market on Monday witnessed fresh buying which supported the KSE-100 index to close above 9,800 points level at 9,809.98 points with a gain of 40.25 points. However, fresh buying at low levels mainly in some E&P, cement and fertiliser sector stocks supported the index to recover its intra-day losses and to remain in the green till closing.




Mixed sentiments observed on LSE
LAHORE (February 09, 2010): Mixed sentiments prevailed on the Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE) where banking sector led the equities downward amid decreased trading turnover because of lacking interest on the part of investors but the last-hour buying in oil sector shares helped market improvement.




Bulls dominate ISE proceedings
ISLAMABAD (February 09, 2010): Equities showed positive signs under the lead of hot favourites at the Islamabad Stock Exchange (ISE) on Monday where bulls dominated the proceedings under the lead of trend-setters amid increase in index. ISE Ten Index was up by 24.55 points from 2,329.04 to 2,353.59 points. Turnover amounted to 1,586,237 shares as compared to previous turnover of 2,302,032 shares.



BRIndex30 gains 14.36 points
KARACHI (February 09, 2010): On Monday, the BRIndex30 opened at 8,566.38 points and remained in positive for most of the market time with only one short visit in the negative just after the start of trading. It closed at 8,580.74 points with a positive change of 14.36 points or 0.17 percent.

Expenses up, development spending down
ISLAMABAD (February 08, 2010): The government has increased current expenditure by Rs 299 billion, reduced development spending by Rs 253 billion for the on-going fiscal year, which economist believe is mainly to meet the expenditure being incurred on war against terrorism, following non-materialisation of pledges by the Friends of Democratic Pakistan (FoDP).



Ships, planes, animal feed import/supply: new law to impose 15 percent VAT
ISLAMABAD (February 08, 2010): The government has proposed 15 percent value-added tax (VAT) on import and local supply of aircraft, ships with gross tonnage exceeding 15 LDTs and poultry/cattle feeds with all ingredients, under the Federal VAT Act 2010.



Over 800 FBR auditors will go on strike today
ISLAMABAD (February 08, 2010): Over 800 sales tax auditors/senior auditors would go on countrywide strike from Monday (today) against the prolonged delay in their promotions within the new organisational structure of the Inland Revenue Service (IRS).




Lowest bid of $723.20 per ton sugar import received
ISLAMABAD (February 08, 2010): The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has received the lowest bid of $723.20 per ton for 50,000 tons of white sugar against its first tender for 150,000 tons, but the accompanying bid bond has been established in the shape of a Standby Letter of Credit (SBLC) by Dubai Bank Kenya Ltd in Nairobi for $750,000.
