US places Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan on terrorism blacklistWASHINGTON (September 02, 2010): The United States on Wednesday added the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan to a blacklist of foreign terrorist organisations, which means members face asset freezes and travel bans. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton designated the Tehreek-e-Taliban as a foreign terrorist organisation on August 12, and it was formally added to the list when it was published Wednesday in the Federal Register.

EU sends heaviest ever aid airlift to PakistanBRUSSELS (September 02, 2010): European Union member states on Wednesday clubbed together to send Pakistan the heaviest and most complex joint airlift of aid in EU history in response to the country's devastating floods. According to Pakistan government figures, over 1,600 people have been killed and millions have been forced out of their homes by the floods, the worst in living memory.

Swiss government accelerates relief effortsKARACHI (September 02, 2010): The outgoing Consul General of Switzerland in Karachi Martin Beinz has said that his government is accelerating efforts to provide aid to the victims of the gruesome recent floods in Pakistan. Speaking at a reception held in his honour by the President SAMEA at the residence of its executive member Rashid Ahmed Siddiqui recently he hoped that Pakistan will overcome the calamity with resilience while the whole world stands behind with the aid being flown in rapidly.

UNICEF, WFP call on international community to step up supportMULTAN (September 02, 2010): The Executive Directors of UNICEF and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) on Wednesday called on the international community to step up their support for the victims of the ongoing floods in Pakistan. Anthony Lake of UNICEF and Josette Sheeran of WFP made their call following a joint visit to operations in the Muzzafargarh district of Punjab, one of the worst affected parts of the country.

23 German relief agencies engage in relief workKARACHI (September 02, 2010): Many German relief organisations are actively engaged in relief work in different flood-hit areas in country. So far over 80 aid workers representing 23 organisations are providing relief assistance. Relief personnel include doctors, paramedics, emergency relief volunteers who have travelled to Pakistan to participate in relief efforts.

Zardari says donors moot will be convened soonISLAMABAD (September 02, 2010): President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday said a meeting (donor conference) of the Pakistan Development Forum would soon be convened in Islamabad to raise international financial assistance for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of flood-ravaged infrastructure.

Two US helicopters delivered to PakistanISLAMABAD (September 02, 2010): Two US Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were delivered to Pakistan on Wednesday as the first elements of the US Army 16th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) began to arrive from Ft. Wainwright, Alaska. The unit and its helicopters will operate in partnership with the Pakistani military throughout flood-impacted areas.

US Coast Guards representatives arriveISLAMABAD (September 02, 2010): US Coast Guard representatives are in Pakistan meeting with their counterparts from Pakistan's Maritime Security Agency and Ministry of Ports and Shipping. The purpose of the meetings is to explore opportunities for training exchanges and reciprocal visits by Pakistani colleagues.

At the Sukkur Airport, he was received by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, provincial ministers Syed Murad Ali Shah, Saifullah Dharejo and Manzoor Wassan, Senator Islamuddin Shaikh, Adviser to CM Jamil Soomro, Secretary Foreign Affairs, Salman Bashir, elected representatives and government officials.

President for probe into discrimination reportsISLAMABAD (September 02, 2010): President Asif Ali Zardari has taken exception to the media reports that some members of the minority communities were denied flood relief assistance and driven out of the relief camps in Sindh and called for an inquiry and action against officials if found involved.
